Largest Workplace Harassment Verdict Ever?

March 2nd, 2012 by JBWK

In what NPR is reporting to be possibly the largest workplace harassment verdict in history for a single plaintiff, a California jury has awarded a former nurse at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento a whopping $168 million verdict. It consisted of $125 million in punitive damages and $42.7 million in compensatory damages.

The case is on appeal, and the damages may be reduced.

Still, the sheer enormity should make all employers pause to consider the effects a $168 million judgment would have on their company.
