REBECCA SHWAYDER AMAN Biography Rebecca is an attorney in the firm's Business and Technology and Employment Law Groups and also practices in the areas of Taxation and Real Estate law. As a member of the Business and Technology Law Group, Rebecca's practice includes business formation and transactions, the sale and acquisition of businesses, and advising clients on issues such as corporate governance and intellectual property matters. In the area of taxation, Rebecca handles corporate and partnership tax issues, non-profit organizations, business succession and estate planning matters. She also has experience with commercial and residential real estate transactions, as well as tax-deferred 1031 exchanges. As a member of the Employment Law Group, Rebecca's practice involves counseling employers in disputes with employees and advising employers in matters relating to the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and other federal and state laws. She also works with employers to protect the interests of their company and intellectual property through the use of employee handbooks, as well as employment, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. Rebecca currently serves on the Board of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Red Cross and is a member of the Junior League of Hampton Roads. Rebecca is originally from Newport News, Virginia. After graduating from Stanford University in 1996, she returned to Virginia, where she graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2000. Having begun her legal practice in Northern Virginia, Rebecca obtained her LL.M. in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center and returned to Newport News in 2005.
